I think that upon a certain amount of posts (for this sake, let's say 10) that each character can select a "trade" or "skill" to study in.
For example, upon 10 posts (probably more, however) Mikau could use to begin training in, let's say:
a) Mind-Affecting Force Prowess b) Advanced Saber Technique c) Multiple Fighting Styles d) Multi-Weapon Practice e) Utility Expertise f) Mechanics/Ship Building (Ships would cost less as you level/post more) g) Elemental Force Control h) Disguise Prowess j) Leadership Skills i) Expert Smuggling Skill
Moreover, once selecting one of those (Which are just examples), a player can post more, and after a certain amount of posts, be able to upgrade the selected skill/trade.
Another example, let's say Mikau selected Elemental Force Control. At a low level, or post count, Mikau may be able to summon forth a small lightning shock. But, as he progressed in level, he would be able to "upgrade" his lightning to do more damage, or even add another force power like Water control, or something along those lines.
Essentially, I took this idea from the JK series games, where you obtain a force power and slowly level it up. However, here, a character would get to pick ONE, and only one, and have to stick with it.

The ideas above intruige me, but the wording of this confuses me a bit. While I'm not opposed to picking a specific ability to "specialize" in, I'm against limiting a characters ability to diversify. For example. A Jedi knight would more than likely have access to several of the listed abilities. I suppose I just wanted to say that I don't like the idea of the expertise system becoming a limiter on the characters.
Also, there used to be an article on Balistakinesis on Wiki. It was recently combined into the telekinesis page, and the old article was lost.
What I remember was that it was supposed to be a unique skill to the Jensaarai. It was the use of the force to launch small projectiles at high speeds. The only thing that seemed to make this differ from force hurling items was the size. I imagine the small items that it listed the Jensaarai using would be difficult for anyone unpracticed at it to handle. Essentially, the items were small enough to cause difficulty in handling them, I guess.... <_< That could be used for a Jensaarai ability, I suppose.
Yes, that makes sense. I was simply thinking one ability per character so that every character remained on the same level, and it was fair.
For example, I didn't want a Jedi to have 2 or 3 abilities when a smuggler, let's say, was only even able to have 1 or 2. But whatever works, I suppose.

I agree with you on that Sol and I can assure everyone that the expertise system will not ever limit any of your characters. I imagine that it would work better as guidelines and rp-assisting, as well as making certain actions by your characters more believable.
I feel this will be much easier to understand and explain with an example so here goes. Lets say that my Jax character reaches a level up and I'm going to pick my first skill from a pool that doesn't exist yet. I pick Natural Leader and apply that to Jax. He know can influence other characters and inspire them in times of hardness. That is not to say that Solomon Kurro couldn't lead other characters and inspire them, nor is it to say that Jax will now always be able to inspire his allies, but rather it is more a benchmark that from now on in posts where Jax attempts to lead others he will now be more successful. This will guide the other players in RP threads with Jax so that they will know that if Jax tries to lead and/or inspire them, that in their response they can feel like it's in character for them to react positively to his leadership attempt. I think this system will help to flush out characters and how they interact with each other, and I think it will help RPers know how to respond with each others posts.
I think this would be pretty fair, but I'd like to know what you guys think about that. Your input is very helpful and appreciated.

Inventory: Jedi Robes Blue Lightsaber (50/50) Comlink
I think it works, and I like that idea. After a certain number of posts, I'd like to give Mikau force prowess in the area of Lightning or something along those lines... But regardless, sounds like a good idea.

That's an excellent way of explaining it, Bentarr. It gives bonuses for having it, without penalizing those who don't. My mind was too muddled to get down those thought the other night. lol
Perhaps you could allow upgrades by quantity of posts, but then you get into High posters getting more skills, quicker than low posters. My response to that problem on GKW, was just to accept it. I couldn't come up with any ideas, though someone else may be able to.
...I always thought of Force lightning as something different than elements. It's classically considered a darkside power, but whatever is decided on the forum is good for me. Perhaps you could adopt a bit of the potentium theory? Unless I'm mistaken, canonically, that was invented around this time.... My Guide to the Force says Leor Hal, founder of the Potentium Theory, was expelled from the Jedi Order in 132 BBY, for stating that the force was inherently good, and without a dark side.
Yeah, something like that. Either way, I think different force control and aspects could be added to the pool of skills. Moreover, subsections of force use like movement (push, pull, speed), body control (grip, mind trick, etc), "dark" side (rage, lightning, etc), and we could even go so far as to do things - within boundaries - like bodily control; things like possessing the mind, altering metabolism, causing chemical reactions in the body, etc.
Maybe that's a bit too outlandish, but hey, just throwing out more ideas.

Nah, that's not that outlandish. That's what breath control in KotoR II was, and I think Force Speed was even explained in such a way. Posessing a mind may be a bit farther than this forum would want to go though. Don't know.
Thought of one more thing to add.
Alright, after much delay and deliberation, we finally present you with the expertise system. What this means is that your character will be able to attain new skills as they level up. Every 20 posts you will be able to pick a new skill by simply adding it into your signature. Once you reach the third tier of you class, you will pick your master skill, and then from there on no new skills will be attained. Skills for each class will follow in the next couple of posts. Enjoy!
